Fayette County approves $1.15 million purchase of Rosenbauer heavy-rescue vehicle

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners on July 25 approved awarding Bid #2409-B to NAFECO, Inc. for one Rosenbauer Heavy Rescue vehicle at a contract price of $1,095,135 plus a $50,000 contingency, for a total authorized award of $1,145,135. The board also authorized up to $25,000 for apparatus safety equipment and updated rescue tools.
Fire Chief Jeff Hill described the Heavy Rescue as the county’s primary vehicle for excavation response, heavy-rescue operations and entrapments, and noted the apparatus can refill SCBA breathing-air cylinders for firefighters. Chief Hill said the expected delivery timeline is 690 days from the date the chassis is delivered to Rosenbauer.
Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons moved to approve the award to NAFECO, Inc. Commissioner Charles W. Oddo seconded, and the motion passed 3-0 (Commissioners Eric Maxwell and Charles D. Rousseau absent).
The purchase is intended to update county rescue capabilities; the board authorized contingency and equipment funds to ensure the vehicle can meet operational needs when placed into service.
