Autauga County Commission proclaims Human Trafficking Prevention Month, sets mileage rate and approves personnel and plats

The Autauga County Commission on Jan. 6 voted to proclaim January 2026 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, set the county mileage reimbursement rate at 72.5 cents per mile and approved a slate of personnel moves and subdivision actions.
Chairman Jay Thompson presented the proclamation declaring January 2026 Human Trafficking Prevention Month and reaffirming the county’s commitment to awareness, training and coordinated survivor services. "I, Jay Thompson, as Chairman of the Autauga County Commission, do hereby proclaim January 2026 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month," the proclamation states, calling for community action and designation as a Trafficking Free Zone.
The commission unanimously approved a motion to set the 2026 mileage reimbursement rate at 72.5 cents per mile, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Commissioners also approved a $1,300 budget adjustment moving funds from registration/training to mileage to cover reimbursements.
Personnel actions approved included rescinding the prior hire of Deputy Sheriff Jaylen Jah'Mere Thicklin and hiring a replacement; hiring Marley Ezelle Jones as a front desk clerk (grade 4: step 2) effective Jan. 5, 2026 to replace a resigned employee (the hire passed 4–0 with Chairman Jay Thompson recorded as abstaining); hiring Tyra Jefferson as a full-time correction officer (grade PS301: step 4); and hiring Rodney Chavers as shop leadman (grade 6: step 9), contingent on background and drug testing.
On land-use matters the commission tabled final plat approval for Alpine Place Plat No. 3 until the next meeting, approved Augustus Acres subdivision pending an approved stormwater report, and approved Double "S" Plat No. 1. The board also accepted the FY2025 Autauga County Rebuild Alabama Annual Report.
Other routine actions carried by unanimous vote included approval of the minutes from the Dec. 16, 2025 meeting, authorization to issue warrants for invoices received through Jan. 6, 2026, approval of solid waste exemptions for three Prattville residents, amendments to the Accounts Payable Clerk job description, and Consent Docket travel and training authorizations for county personnel.
The commission suspended the rules to add and enter an executive session at 5:25 p.m.; it reconvened at 5:44 p.m. The minutes record no formal actions taken as a result of the executive session. The meeting adjourned at 5:46 p.m.; the board is scheduled to reconvene at 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2026.
