Autauga County Commission approves hires, budget transfers, $23,070 sewer allocation and transportation plan

The Autauga County Commission on Aug. 12, 2025, unanimously approved routine minutes and invoices, a series of personnel appointments and transfers, budget transfers for gasoline usage across departments, a $23,070 allocation to the Autauga County Sewer Authority and adoption of the 2025–2026 County Transportation Plan.

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Jay Thompson. Commissioner Rusty Jacksland gave the invocation. Commissioners John L. Thrailkill, Bill Tatum and Terry Tanner were present. County staff listed in the minutes included Scott Kramer, Treasurer/Administrator; Audra Smith, Deputy Treasurer/Administrator; Kyle Shirley, County Attorney; and John Mark Davis, County Engineer.

Personnel and staffing decisions

The commission approved transferring Jerome Chatman from jail lieutenant to deputy sheriff, grade PS303 step 5, effective Aug. 15, 2025, to replace Clifton McGinnis (retired). It approved hiring Landon Stange as a full-time correction officer, grade PS301 step 3 (pending background and drug test), to replace Ryan Justice (resigned); Landyn Orange as a full-time correction officer, grade PS301 step 3, effective Aug. 8, 2025, to replace Antonio James (resigned); Jacob Caver as a Laborer I, grade 2 step 6 (pending background and drug test), to replace Bruce Conard (resigned); and Akivious Motley as a Laborer I, grade 2 step 5 (pending background and drug test), to replace Trace Davis (resigned).

Budget and equipment actions

The minutes document transfers into the gasoline budget for July 2025 charged to multiple departments totaling $6,345.52 from the general fund and $259.46 from the reappraisal fund. The commission also authorized transfers to the sheriff budget for July gasoline expenses. The commission declared four sheriff Pro-Vision body cameras surplus and approved their destruction; the minutes list the four serial numbers.

Other business and adjournment

The commission suspended the rules to add an item approving a historical marker on the right of way of County Road 9 at Mallard Circle; that motion carried unanimously. The minutes also show the commission voted to suspend the rules and add an item for Meridian Waste to discuss Autauga County trash services.
