Residents press council on Market Street wrong-way traffic, Comcast work and park amenities

Residents used the public-comment period at the May 6 Freemansburg Borough Council meeting to press officials on local safety, maintenance and notification practices.
Dee Rasner told council drivers regularly travel the wrong way on Market Street, a one-way; she urged additional signage. Borough Manager Jonathan Itterly said the Police Department has issued many tickets, the inbound lane of the Freemansburg Bridge is closed and the bridge will close for repairs in coming months, and that a traffic study would be required to change signage enforcement. Council President Homer Lorrah noted signs exist at the top of Market Street.
Rasner also raised debris and branches on Market Street and said Comcast knocked a branch down; Itterly said he would handle the Comcast issue directly and that Public Works would add Market Street cleanup to its to-do list.
Beth Robinson asked why the borough had not notified residents that Comcast planned to dig in Market Square. Itterly said he had emailed Robinson confirming Comcast had a permit to work in the utility easement, that door hangers would be posted when technicians are in the area and that the borough would send a Nixle alert once it received notification from Comcast. He asked residents to contact the borough if door hangers were not posted.
Resident Melanie Wrecsics, who maintains the Market Street embankment, asked whether she could place cones while working; Solicitor Anthony Giovannini told her she may place cones provided they do not block traffic and she uses her best judgment.
Stephanie Valez asked whether basketball hoops could be placed at the park for the Fit-Fest on June 7, 2025. Council President Lorrah said hoops would not be put back due to missing backboards from prior vandalism but suggested the space could be used for pickleball in the future.
These comments were taken under advisement; council recorded no formal vote on signage, additional notices or park equipment during the meeting.
