Elk County commissioners approve hires, merit increases, warrants and abatements; deny County Road 4 extension petition

At their Jan. 26 meeting the Elk County Board of Commissioners approved routine personnel and financial items and adopted a resolution denying a request to extend County Road 4.
County staff reported that a full-time EMT has been hired and that interviews for additional EMS staffing are scheduled. Commissioner Perry Russell moved and Commissioner Jake Liebau seconded the motion to appoint Jewell Mitchell to a three-year term on the New Beginnings Enterprises board; the appointment carried 3-0.
Following several executive sessions on non-elected personnel, the board approved merit increases for Public Works Supervisor Don Sanders, raising his hourly rate from $28.54 to $28.89, and for Emergency Management staff member Erica Cordell, increasing her hourly rate from $21.59 to $22.59; both motions passed 3-0.
County Clerk Kerry Harrod asked to transfer funds into the Special Liability fund; commissioners approved a $4,000 transfer from the Wind Farm Fund to the Special Liability Fund and adopted a corrected wage scale, each vote recorded 3-0. Commissioners also approved warrants totaling $296,273.68 and approved abatements PP26-005, PP26-006, PP26-009, PP26-010, RE26-007, RE26-008, PP26-011 and PP26-014; all motions carried 3-0.
Finally, the board adopted Resolution 26-03 by a 3-0 vote, denying a petition to extend County Road 4 and finding that the subject property is not landlocked within the meaning of Kansas Statute Annotated 68-117.
The meeting adjourned at 3:07 p.m.
