Elk County approves up to $27,500 for engineering of road to serve 1285 Evergreen industrial park

The Elk County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 26 voted unanimously to hire ASM Engineering Consultants to perform the scope of services outlined in paragraph A of the contract to develop a road serving the industrial park at 1285 Evergreen, with the cost capped at $27,500.

Commissioner Jake Liebau moved the contract authorization and Commissioner Perry Russell seconded; the motion carried 3-0. Diane Cucar of Community Development updated commissioners on site-certification work for the 1285 Evergreen property and said the contract would advance road design and related site work needed for industrial development.

Deputy Appraiser Chris Miller flagged a separate concern about a high valuation placed on an old church in Moline; Miller said he will review the appraisal and follow up with the county appraiser. Public Works Supervisor Don Sanders provided a timeline update on other county infrastructure projects, noting the bridge south of Moline has approximately 41 calendar days remaining until completion.

The vote authorizes only the scope described in the contract’s paragraph A and limits engineering expenditures to no more than $27,500; commissioners did not authorize construction spending at this meeting. The county clerk recorded the motion as carried 3-0.

Next steps identified in the meeting record include moving forward with the engineering scope under the capped payment and awaiting the deputy appraiser’s follow-up on the church valuation.
