Commissioners approve a batch of routine items — Picklers lighting, minutes, payroll payout, CVR closeout and facility requests

The Rawlins County Board of Commissioners handled a series of administrative and community requests Sept. 15, approving several payments and accepting updates from county staff and local organizations.
The board approved a $905 High Plains Electric quote to install a 2‑hour timer for the Rawlins County Picklers courts, using $500.74 from donations and $404.26 from the County Building Fund after the Picklers said they had raised $500 toward the project. Commissioner Alan A. Solko moved to approve the purchase; Commissioner Mark Mosley seconded and the motion carried.
Commissioner Lincoln Pochop moved to approve and sign the minutes from Aug. 15 and Sept. 2, 2025; Commissioner Mosley seconded and the motion carried. Pochop also moved that Appraiser Alicia Baumfalk’s sick and vacation payout be calculated on a 40‑hour workweek rather than the 35‑hour week Baumfalk requested; Commissioner Solko seconded and the motion carried.
Deputy County Clerk Renee Sagel requested payment of $479.92 from the County Building Fund for Ultrasonic Bat Repelling Systems already purchased; the board approved payment by motion. Corina Cox of the Northwest Kansas Planning & Development Commission, appearing by phone, presented the CVR Final Performance Closeout (Project No. 23‑CVR‑010); Commissioner Pochop moved to approve the closeout packet, Commissioner Mosley seconded and the motion carried.
Jackie Portschy of the Good Samaritan told the commissioners the facility has a leaking roof and untrimmed trees; Portschy requested quotes for roof repair and a security system to be funded from Good Samaritan gift funds. The board asked Portschy to obtain additional quotes and asked Commissioner Mosley to contact a local contractor about tree work.
The meeting concluded with a legal update that the county is waiting to hear from KCAMP/Gould Law Offices and the board adjourning at 10:20 a.m.
