Rawlins County commissioners approve contracts, grants and equipment repairs

At their July 1 meeting the Rawlins County Board of Commissioners approved an 80/20 crushed-concrete bid split, signed a KDOT aviation grant, accepted a jail-painting contract, authorized EMS repairs and equipment purchases, and approved routine minutes and vouchers.
The Rawlins County Board of Commissioners approved a series of contracts, grants and routine purchases during its July 1, 2025 regular meeting in Atwood.
The board accepted a sealed bid arrangement for concrete crushing at the county landfill that allocates 80% of proceeds to the contractor and 20% to the county. Commissioners voted to approve and sign a Kansas Department of Transportation Division of Aviation grant for the Atwood City/Rawlins Airport and to accept a painting quote from Garcia Remodeling for the county jail, with two checks of $6,435 to be paid from the County Building Fund.
Emergency medical services needs were also addressed: the board authorized repair of Unit 416’s water pump (estimated at over $1,000) and the purchase of four backup batteries and two chargers for the power cots stationed in Atwood and McDonald.
The commissioners approved routine business including minutes for June 16, 19 and 20, 2025; payment of the June 2025 vouchers; and signing a letter of support for Norton County’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant application. County Attorney Chris Rohr will draft a proposed employee contract requiring reimbursement if staff take county-funded CDL classes and then leave before an agreed period.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 15, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in the county courtroom. County Attorney Rohr will follow up with the City Attorney on the Communications and Holding Fees Agreement and will draft the proposed CDL-repayment contract for employee training.
