Register of Deeds Janice Bohme brought a memorandum of understanding to the board concerning the placement of the County Clerk’s signature on deeds and furnished statutes relating to transfer records.
Deputy County Clerk Renee Sagel questioned why the issue was on the commissioners’ agenda, noting it was between two elected officials and that the statute did not require the signature to be on the original deed. Commissioner Lincoln Pochop said the commissioners have no authority over the dispute between elected officers and that the County Attorney should continue resolving the issue; the other commissioners agreed to that approach.
The minutes indicate the County Attorney has previously reviewed earlier versions of the memorandum but that the most recent version had not yet been reviewed by counsel. The board did not take formal action on the memorandum during the Jan. 31 meeting and left resolution to the county attorney’s ongoing review.
