Ford County adopts 30-day burn ban and proclaims local disaster emergency

Ford County commissioners on Feb. 17 approved a 30-day county burn ban and unanimously proclaimed a state of local disaster emergency.
Emergency Manager Rex Beemer presented Resolution 2026-09 proposing a burn ban; he told the board the initial timeframe would be Feb. 17 through May 18. Commissioner Chris Boys moved to adopt the resolution but the board debated the length of the ban given agricultural needs. Commissioner Shawn Tasset said he "could agree if the ending date was changed to 30 days with the Chief able to extend it if needed, as the farmers need to clear the fields." Commissioners Boys and Gary Thomas supported the amended timeframe. The board adopted the amended burn-ban resolution setting the ban for Feb. 17–Mar. 17 by a 3-0 vote.
Beemer also presented Resolution 2026-10, proclaiming a state of local disaster emergency for Ford County. Commissioner Tasset moved to approve the proclamation, Commissioner Boys seconded, and the motion passed 3-0.
Both resolutions were approved without recorded dissent and will be implemented by county emergency management staff.
