Ford County commissioners approve claims, dues, equipment contract extension, vehicle purchase and elevator modernizations

The Ford County Board of County Commissioners approved several spending and contracting items during its Dec. 30, 2025 meeting, including payment of $635,853.52 in claims and multiple contract awards.
Chairman Shawn Tasset moved to approve the claims for payment totaling $635,853.52; Commissioner Chris Boys seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The board then considered departmental contract and membership items.
Captain John Hunter presented a proposed extension of the Motorola body and in-car camera contract for the Sheriff’s Department and asked the board to approve the extension. The board voted 3-0 to approve the contract extension as presented.
The board approved 2026 membership dues of $5,000 to the Kansas Natural Resource Coalition (the same amount as 2025) after a motion by Chairman Tasset and second by Commissioner Gary Thomas. Commissioners also approved 2026 dues to the Kansas Association of Counties of $8,984.16 (up from $8,261.15 in 2025; the increase is based on population). Commissioner Chris Boys moved to approve the KAC dues; the motion carried 3-0.
Buildings & Grounds Director Manny Fernandez and Assistant County Administrator Tanda Bartlett presented seven bids for a 2026 pickup truck, listing models, prices, and estimated delivery windows. The board approved the recommended bid from Lewis Chevrolet — Dodge City for a 2026 Chevy Silverado 3500 at $59,940.00. Other bids presented ranged from $57,869.00 to $69,971.00.
Fernandez and Bartlett also presented three separate contracts with Sunrise Elevator to modernize two elevators in the Government Center and one elevator in the Courthouse. The board approved all three contracts as presented; the transcript does not record contract dollar amounts or delivery schedules for the elevator work.
The meeting concluded with an announcement of the next regular board meeting on Jan. 5, 2026, and adjournment at 3:49 p.m.
