Washington County adopts FY2020-2021 budget ordinance; schools budget approved after Commissioner Walker recusal

Curtis Potter, County Manager and County Attorney, told the board he had incorporated the changes the commissioners requested into the budget ordinance and that the original ordinance was incorporated by reference into the meeting minutes. Commissioner Riddick moved to approve adoption of the Washington County FY2020-2021 Budget Ordinance except for the Washington County Schools portion; Commissioner Johnson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Because Commissioner Walker had a disqualifying reason for the schools vote, Commissioner Johnson moved that Commissioner Walker be recused from the next vote on the Washington County Schools budget; Commissioner Sexton seconded and the motion passed 4-0. Following that recusal, Commissioner Johnson moved to approve adoption of the Washington County Schools budget; Commissioner Riddick seconded and the motion passed 4-0. The minutes note only the vote counts (unanimous or 4-0 where specified) and do not list individual roll-call votes for each commissioner.
The board also voted to go into closed session pursuant to NCGS §143-318.11(a)(3) to discuss instructions for the Board of Adjustment. The minutes close with a note that the board had agreed not to meet on July 6, 2020 and subsequently adjourned.
