Washington County commissioners endorse NCACC broadband legislative goal

On Sept. 8 the Washington County Board of Commissioners voted to submit a legislative goal to the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) advocating state action and funding to expand digital infrastructure and broadband access in unserved and underserved areas.
Commissioner Johnson presented the proposed goal, citing benefits for telemedicine, distance learning, economic development and reducing social isolation. Commissioner Riddick moved that Commissioner Johnson carry the proposal to NCACC; Commissioner Walker seconded the motion, and the board approved it unanimously.
The commissioners set the county's NCACC goal ahead of the NCACC deadline at the end of September; Commissioner Johnson said she would submit the county's nomination and follow up with board members as needed.
