Washington County commissioners approve routine business, set Jan. 19 budget workshop

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the consent agenda, reappointed two ABC Board members and approved budget amendments. The board scheduled a budget workshop for Jan. 19–20 and appointed Commissioner Ann Keyes as the county's NCACC voting delegate.
The Washington County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 4, 2021, approved routine business and set a schedule for upcoming budget work. Commissioners Bill Sexton (chair), Ann Keyes, Carol Phelps and Julius Walker Jr. were present; Commissioner Tracey Johnson was absent.
Commissioner Carol Phelps moved to approve the consent agenda, which the board adopted unanimously after a roll-call vote. The consent items included approval of minutes, tax refunds and releases, and the EIC Community Services Block Grant for 2021.
Clerk Julie J. Bennett asked to remove the Employee of the Year item from tonight’s agenda and County Manager/County Attorney Curtis Potter asked to remove planned closed sessions; both changes were accepted.
The board reappointed Jack Faulk and Ronnie Barnes to the ABC Board after both indicated they would serve if reappointed; Commissioner Ann Keyes moved the appointments and the board approved them unanimously.
Clerk Bennett said counties must designate a voting delegate for the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Legislative Goals Conference scheduled for Jan. 14–15, 2021. Commissioner Julius Walker said he had a scheduling conflict and moved to appoint Commissioner Ann Keyes as the county's voting delegate; the board approved the motion and Bennett will send registration information to Keyes.
Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget transfers and amendments. Commissioner Julius Walker moved to approve the budget amendments with a correction to BA#2021-049 (removing a $1,000 sheriff donation that will be covered by BA#2021-053). The board approved the amendments by roll-call vote.
With no further business, Commissioner Phelps moved to recess the meeting to a budget workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 3:00 PM, with a carryover to Jan. 20 if needed; the motion passed unanimously.
