During the March 1 meeting, Washington County commissioners discussed several local service and community concerns and directed staff where appropriate.
Commissioner Julius Walker relayed a constituent’s concern that some house numbers are not visible, which can impede firefighters' response; Commissioner Ann Keyes said the county Safety Office makes mailbox signs and offered to take the lead. Chair Bill Sexton reported a resident group willing to assist with litter pickup and suggested the county promote Adopt‑a‑Road supplies; Commissioner Phelps confirmed DOT still supplies bags and related materials.
County Manager Curtis Potter said the county received a written request from Riverlight Development Commission for one of the Riverlight Transit buses coming out of service; Potter had not made a recommendation. Potter also reported discussions about Veteran’s Field: some local investors prefer to acquire the field outright, while recreation staff favored a lease or shared‑use arrangement; staff said leasing to outside parties may be considered.
Commissioner Keyes and Commissioner Phelps reported continued coordination on Cardinal Road and assistance to seniors with vaccine registration. No formal policy decision on these items was made at the meeting; staff follow‑up was requested.
