Charlotte County supervisors review VDOT road-priority list and emergency Mossingford Bridge detour

At a March 23 work session, the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors reviewed maps and a prioritized list of local roads that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recommends for surface treatment, and discussed a detour plan after an emergency closure at Mossingford Bridge.
Scott Frederick, VDOT resident engineer, handed board members a paved/unpaved road map and a map showing surface-treated roads with more than 50 vehicles per day and reviewed VDOT’s priority list for surface treatment, which included Coles Ferry, Waddell Nelson (two sections), June Lane, Parson’s Road, Rt. 744, Rt. 802, Rt. 706, Rt. 745, Rt. 777, Rt. 779 and Rt. 830.
Supervisor Tony Reeves asked whether a repair plan was in place for Mossingford Bridge. Frederick said he has been calling the Bridge Office weekly to "stay on top of it," that the office is in the planning stages and that the bridge was being treated as an emergency closure. The board discussed the possibility of surface-treating Double Bridges Road because it is likely to be used as the detour while repairs proceed.
Chairman Gary D. Walker suggested that the county propose covering the cost of affected road pavement as part of negotiations with solar companies operating in the area, linking potential development agreements to road improvements that would serve detour traffic or otherwise mitigate impacts.
No formal motion or vote on road funding or detour design was recorded at the session. The board continued review of VDOT priorities as part of routine coordination with the state transportation agency.
