CHARLOTTE COUNTY — At a Charlotte County Board of Supervisors work session on April 17, board members heard a written appeal to direct revenue from local solar projects toward education and received clarification on fire department funding.
Supervisor Walter T. Bailey read an email from Carlton Jennings expressing support for "using solar revenue for educational and continuing education expenses for citizens in the County," asking the board to consider allocating proceeds from solar projects to county educational needs.
County Administrator Daniel Witt responded to a separate budget question from Supervisor Hazel Bowman Smith about the County Fire Departments, saying the department budgets "may look different than last fiscal year, but it was actually level funded," and that each department received an additional $25,000 from CARES funding. Witt framed the apparent line-item changes as accounting differences rather than reductions in overall funding.
The board opened the meeting at 6 p.m. at the Administration Building. Will Garnett moved to approve the agenda; Garland H. Hamlett Jr. seconded the motion, which the board approved unanimously. No formal action was taken on the solar revenue suggestion during the work session.
The session concluded after the budget clarification and other routine procedural items; the meeting minutes were signed and the session was adjourned.
