Charlotte County awards three contracts to repair Historic Courthouse using $100,000 DHR grant

Charlotte County officials told the board on June 12 that the county will use a $100,000 grant from DHR to fund repairs at the Historic Courthouse damaged by Hurricane Michael, and the board approved three related contracts.
Purchasing Agent Heather Brown said the county issued three invitations for bid and recommended awarding contracts as follows: Gupton Sheet Metal Inc. for $17,000 to replace copper gutters and downspouts and connect them to the underground drainage; Grounds and Maintenance Solutions for $9,875 to perform excavation, slope grading and hydroseeding to direct water away from buildings; and Riddleberger Brothers Inc. for $44,745 to replace HVAC units to reduce mold and improve airflow.
Brown said a remaining grant balance of $8,940 could be used to repair plaster damage in a vacant office at 115 LeGrande Avenue; County Administrator Daniel Witt asked whether the board would pursue funding roughly $1,000 to complete those repairs, and the board agreed by consensus.
The contract awards were presented as part of the county’s procurement process and were accepted by the board without recorded opposition.
