Charlotte County Board adopts $72.6 million FY2024 budget and sets tax levies

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously May 8 to adopt the county's consolidated FY 2023'2024 budget totaling $72,613,603 and set the tax levies for the 2024 tax year.

Supervisor Will D. Garnett moved to approve the advertised budget; Garland H. Hamlett, Jr. seconded the motion, and all members voted aye. The board recorded a roll-call showing every supervisor in support.

The board also approved the tax levies that will support the adopted budget: real estate and mobile homes at $0.62 per $100 assessed value; personal property at $3.25 per $100; machinery and tools at $3.00 per $100; merchant's capital at $3.20 per $100; and a license registration fee of $25 per vehicle.

In addition to the budget and tax rates, the board approved payment of FY2023 invoices totaling $482,226.69, approved invoices received after the April meeting totaling $50,424.42, and approved appropriations of $32,811. Each motion passed on unanimous votes.

The motions were made and seconded by board members during the May 8 meeting at the Charlotte County Administration Building. The board did not specify additional changes to the advertised budget during the meeting; the adopted total remains $72,613,603.
