Treasurer warns solar-credit changes may delay tax-bill mailing

Treasurer Patricia Berkeley informed the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors that her office will need additional time to recalculate tax bills to apply solar credits and that resending corrected files to the printer may cause further complications.
Berkeley said she "has not received the real estate or personal property books from the Commissioner of Revenue and must have those before she can do her part." She warned of anticipated problems when resubmitting information to the printing company and said an extension for mailing or collection deadlines "may be needed." The board made a motion authorizing Berkeley to work with county staff to prepare a solution for implementing solar credits on tax bills, "including but not limited to an extension." The authorization was approved by consensus.
The board did not set a specific extended deadline at the meeting. Berkeley's statement puts the timeline for tax-bill mailing and any related taxpayer notices contingent on receipt of property rolls from the Commissioner of Revenue and on resolving technical issues with the printer.
