Catawba County commissioners make several appointments, proclamations and update map review officers list

At its April 7 meeting the Catawba County Board of Commissioners approved several appointments and proclamations and amended the county’s list of Map Review Officers.

On appointments, the Board appointed Garrett Osborne to the K-64 Education Board (term begins May 15, 2025; expires May 15, 2027) and reappointed Jane Turner Murphy to the Nursing & Rest Home Community Advisory Committee for a 10th term. The Board also appointed Warren Elston, Marea Pinto and Craig Pinto to first terms on that advisory committee (terms expire April 7, 2026). Commissioner Barbara G. Beatty recommended and the Board reappointed Carmen Isenhower to the Library Board of Trustees for a term through June 30, 2029.

During presentations, Commissioner Beatty presented a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Awareness Month to Melanie Sigmon on behalf of the Catawba County Children’s Advocacy & Protection Center. Vice-Chair Austin Allran presented a proclamation declaring April as Public Health Month to Public Health Director Jennifer McCracken and Assistant Director Julie Byrd. Commissioner Abernethy presented a proclamation declaring April 13–19, 2025, as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week to 911 Communications Center Administrator Brian Drum. A proclamation declaring April 18 as Line Worker Appreciation Day was prepared but not presented because no one was present to accept it; Chair Isenhower said the proclamation will be provided to Robin Nicholson outside the meeting.

Staff also presented a resolution amending the county’s list of Map Review Officers — a list that must name individuals under S.L. 1997-309 (SB875) — to remove Lisa Johnson from the Town of Maiden roster and confirm the current named review officers for the county and participating municipalities.
