Catawba County appoints Gina Powers to Public Health Board and Danny Long as planning-board alternate; public commenter praises CVCC

At the June 2 meeting, the Catawba County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two appointments recommended by board members. Vice-Chair Austin Allran moved to appoint Gina Powers to the Public Health Board; the appointment carries a term beginning July 1, 2025 and ending June 30, 2028. Chair Randy Isenhower moved to appoint Danny Long to fill an unexpired term as an Alternate to the Catawba County Planning Board, with a term expiration of Dec. 31, 2026. Both motions carried unanimously.
During the public-comment period, Michael James McRee addressed the board to express appreciation for Catawba Valley Community College and the benefits he said the college brings to the community. No formal action followed the public comment.
