The Catawba County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 18 authorized the County Manager to execute or assign agreements to acquire approximately 29.18 acres across seven parcels for a total purchase price of $3.65 million to expand a Southeastern Catawba County business park.
Economic Development Director Nathan Huret described the county's earlier land purchases (78 acres acquired in 2020 and 2022) and the strategic goal to assemble over 100 acres for a Class‑A business park that could support high‑impact employers and a potential Life Sciences campus. The seven parcels optioned in April 2025 include acreage listed by owner and conditional option terms; the county's remaining required capital outlay after accounting for option payments is $2.127 million, staff said. No additional funding was required from current capital balances to move forward.
Huret said due diligence performed on the parcels revealed no significant issues to date. The Board opened a public hearing and, with no public comment, Vice‑Chair Austin Allran moved to authorize the County Manager to execute or assign the purchase agreements and authorize deposit of any CVMC reimbursements into the Southeastern Catawba County Business Park project. The motion carried unanimously and was adopted as Resolution 2025‑32.
Next steps outlined in the presentation included initiating master planning with partners — including the EDC, Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) and Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) — to refine an eventual development vision and plan.
