The Durham County Board of County Commissioners received a presentation of a market and financial feasibility study for a proposed Durham Convention Center and headquarters hotel at its Feb. 3 work session.
Representatives from consulting firm Hunden Partners, the City of Durham General Services Department and Durham Next presented the completed study and recommendations. The packet notes the initial study was paid for by the City of Durham and that Durham Next is expected to fund the next phase of project assessment.
Staff asked the Board to engage in a question-and-answer session and provide feedback on the next phase. County materials framed the project as aligned with strategic priorities including regional leadership and sustainable infrastructure. The agenda lists Jina Propst (City General Services) and Susan Amey (Discover Durham/Durham Next) as resource persons.
The study and presentation were placed on the record for Board review; the agenda did not record a formal motion or vote. Any subsequent Board action to advance design, funding or intergovernmental agreements would be subject to later public meetings and approvals.
