Mayor Marie Gallo told the Parma Heights City Council on Dec. 12 that the city submitted a Community Development Block Grant application for an ambulance and is awaiting a Community Developmental Supplemental Grant. She said the administration expects a $238,000 reimbursement and plans to go out to bid for the NEO Soccer/Ice Rink demolition and the Nathan Hale Basin project this month.
Recreation Coordinator Bacci reported on a well‑attended "Breakfast with Santa," thanked volunteers including Council President Tom Rounds and several council members, and said spring youth sports registration (baseball, softball, T‑ball, soccer) begins Feb. 1; lifeguard certification registration is set to begin in January and a line‑dancing program is scheduled Jan. 14 at Cassidy Theatre.
Director of Safety Heffernan said the fire department continues inspections to ensure business compliance and that police have been responding to overnight parking complaints. Heffernan said officers had seized five firearms during arrests in the prior five days and commended department personnel for their work.
Service Director Robert Sepik reminded residents that holiday rubbish pick‑up dates are pushed by one day (Dec. 29 instead of Dec. 28; Jan. 5 instead of Jan. 4). Sepik said the city hopes to keep an inspector on duty through the winter to patrol for prematurely set‑out bulk items and issue citations if necessary; Mayor Gallo said she planned to retain at least one inspector year‑round and additional staff in the main season.
The mayor noted the city is pursuing a Cuyahoga County Solid Waste Recycling Grant (due Feb. 1) and that the Senior Center served and delivered 1,321 meals over the past two weeks. Several items were described as expected or planned; the mayor and department directors provided no contested figures beyond those cited.
The meeting was the council’s final regular session of 2022; council recessed for an executive session on collective bargaining and returned later in the meeting to complete votes and adjourn.
