Parma Heights ramps up summer recreation staffing, registrations and secures $150,000 trail grant

Recreation Director Bacci told Parma Heights City Council on Feb. 27 that the department has hired 18 seasonal staff to date and has 10 more interviews scheduled to ensure parks and the pool are fully staffed for summer. She said youth registrations stood at 105 for baseball, softball and T‑ball, and 60 for spring soccer; swim team registration is scheduled to open March 1.
Bacci said a recent change to line-dancing times drew nearly 50 participants, and several upcoming events are planned: a sold‑out Leprechaun Hunt on March 11 (about 60 participants), an Easter egg‑dying event with Parma's Historical Society on April 6 and the city’s Earth Day celebration on April 29 (noting the city will celebrate a week after the national date).
Mayor Marie Gallo added that the city’s Recreational Trail Grant for Nathan Hale was approved in the amount of $150,000, and that senior programs remain active: the Senior Center served or delivered 1,173 meals in the past two weeks and the Parma Heights seniors won three of four volleyball games in a recent match and will receive medals at an upcoming ceremony.
The mayor also said the city expects to have the Nathan Hale basin contract before council at the March 13 meeting so that work can begin in April if approved.
The department is continuing recruitment to staff summer facilities and to support the city's newly city‑run swim team, which opens registration March 1.
