Recreation and senior-services updates: pool work, CPR classes and senior outings announced

Recreation and senior services were the focus of the council’s opening reports March 27.
Recreation Director Madi Bacci told council the activity pool pump room is being demolished and a new pump and filter will be installed once weather permits; she said the slide structure will be repainted Parma Heights purple. Bacci said the pool is fully staffed this year but the department continues to recruit lifeguards and swim instructors. She credited Aquatics Director Melissa for successful staffing and said surrounding cities have sought her advice. Bacci announced community offerings including Adult/Pediatric First Aid CPR and AED courses on April 22 and May 10, an iNaturalist event on April 22 at noon, and Earth Day activities on April 29 at 1:00 p.m. She also reported sport registration totals: 163 for baseball and 60 for the Parma Heights Penguins program.
Mayor Marie Gallo reported the Senior Center delivered and served 1,324 meals over the prior two weeks and recapped recent programming: a butterfly presentation, St. Patrick’s Day lunch and cooperation with the Parma Heights library for future senior programs. Gallo said the Senior Center will attend an upcoming Lake County Captains game; tickets and a basic meal bundle were described at $35 per attendee. The mayor also noted pending grant applications for Cassidy Theatre lobby renovations and county block grant funds for a new ambulance.
