Rock County board accepts three-year State Auditor contract; clerk flags years of uncashed checks

The Rock County Board of Commissioners on April 1 voted unanimously to accept a three-year contract with the Nebraska State Auditor covering audit services for 2025–2027.
County Clerk Daunitta Buoy presented the contract to the board and asked for acceptance. The motion by Commissioner Faye Smith, seconded by Commissioner Colby Sybrant, carried on a roll-call vote of all present voting in favor.
Buoy also told the board there are numerous uncashed checks dating from 2020 through 2024. She said the county will attempt to contact the vendors; if they cannot be reached, the checks will be paid over to unclaimed property with the Nebraska Department of Revenue.
The action ensures the county has auditor coverage for three years and directs staff to follow state procedures for unclaimed county funds. The board did not set a separate deadline in the meeting for when the county will turn funds over to the Department of Revenue.
