Rock County commissioners raise rents for county tenants, approve equipment repair and claims

At their Sept. 2 meeting the Rock County Board raised NMC and NPPD rents, approved a tractor repair claim and prepaid 3,500 gallons of propane; the board also approved routine claims, a small tax correction, a surplus sale and noted two applications for the 2026 Highway Superintendent post.
Chairman Wade D. Hollenbeck called the Rock County Board of Commissioners to order Sept. 2 in Bassett. Commissioners Colby Sybrant and Faye Smith joined Hollenbeck and County Clerk Daunitta Buoy for the meeting, which produced unanimous votes on a series of operational and budget items.
Waylon Reynolds, Road Foreman, briefed the board on road-related items. Commissioners approved raising NMC's rent to $1,000 and NPPD's rent to $500; the board directed the county clerk to contact Kurt Arganbright to draft the rental agreements. The board approved a claim from Sandhills to repair the county's 8970 tractor. Chairman Hollenbeck moved and Commissioner Faye Smith seconded approval to prepay 3,500 gallons of propane at $1.44 per gallon; the roll call vote was unanimous.
The board noted two applications have been received for the 2026 Highway Superintendent position; the application deadline is Sept. 12, 2025. Larry Buell presented three estimates to replace damaged BEEF signs and proposed phasing replacements across 2025–2027; the commissioners tabled that matter until the Sept. 16 meeting.
On routine financial business, the board approved the Sheriff's fee report, accepted a $7.88 tax correction from the previous meeting and approved the sale of a surplus FUJITSU scanner for $50 as declared by the Secretary of State's Election Division. Commissioners audited and approved the Sept. 2 claims list, which includes general, road, library and E911 charges as recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 12:22 p.m.
