Rock County approves road equipment repair, extends zoning moratorium and green-lights Beef County signs grant

The board approved a $12,560.65 repair quote for a spare maintainer, extended the zoning moratorium to July 1, 2026, approved the 2025 Weed Plan, approved a subdivision application and authorized a $9,500 Visitor's Improvement Fund grant for Beef County signs at county lines.
During the Jan. 20 meeting, Road Foreman Waylon Reynolds reported maintenance issues and presented a quote from NMC to repair a spare 140H maintainer for $12,560.65; the board voted to accept the quote. Reynolds also reported a payloader in Newport has water in the oil and a 2006 Ford F-150 has transmission problems.
The board voted unanimously to extend the county zoning moratorium to July 1, 2026 and approved Lake Mac Appraisal's $1,600 contract for appraisal services (see finance article). The board approved the 2025 Rock County Weed Plan and made a copy available in the clerk's office for public viewing.
On land-use matters, the board approved a subdivision application for tracts in the NE4 of Section 13, Township 25N, Range 18 and the SE4 of Section 18, Township 25N, Range 17, West of the 6th P.M., Rock County, Nebraska. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Rock County Growth for BEEF signs at county lines and approved a $9,500 grant from the Visitor's Improvement Fund to pay for the signs.
These votes advance several maintenance, regulatory and tourism projects; most actions passed unanimously on roll-call votes.
