Rock County commissioners table decision on multi‑county BEEF highway signs after funding plan presented

Bassett, Neb. — Larry Buell of Rock County Growth and Kristin Olson of NCDC met with the Rock County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 18 to present a funding plan for a set of five intercounty “BEEF” highway signs.
According to the presentation, Rock County Growth has agreed to contribute $6,200.00 and the city has pledged $7,306.50 from LB840 sales tax funds. Buell and Olson said a request has been submitted to the Lodging Tax Committee for $9,500.00 and that Rock County’s required share would be $1,348.00. The board was told Rock County Growth will immediately replace the South Highway 183 BEEF sign.
Commissioners did not decide on the county’s contribution or the Lodging Tax Committee request at the meeting. The board tabled the funding request for further consideration and will revisit it at the board’s Dec. 2, 2025 meeting.
Why this matters: highway signage projects are typically funded from a mix of local and special‑purpose taxes; approving contributions would commit county funds and affect allocations available for other projects. The board’s November action leaves the city and Lodging Tax Committee requests unresolved pending the next meeting.
