County awards well-drilling contract and discusses parking deck repairs and weekend access

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 awarded the well-drilling contract to Negley’s Well Drilling, LLC, with a base bid of $109,836.26 and a contingency rate of $189 per linear foot, bringing the total noted in the minutes to $110,025.26.
During public comment, Stroudsburg business owner Kurt Cummings raised concerns about parking and asked whether the county would consider using a county-owned gravel lot on Sixth Street for safe parking and whether the county-owned parking deck could be opened on weekends to accommodate demand. Chairman John D. Christy noted security issues would need to be addressed before reopening the deck for weekends. Chief Clerk/Administrator Robert J. Gress said the deck had been open on weekends many years ago but vandalism and security problems led to closure, and he noted the deck will undergo major repairs in spring and summer.
The board said it had contacted an engineering firm to evaluate the gravel lot for safe weekend parking and that further steps would depend on security and repair plans. The well-drilling award and vendor acknowledgment were recorded in the minutes as part of M-2026-10.
