Engineer reports Packard paving planned, Greene bridge to open; RAISE grant for Packard Bridge denied

County Engineer John Riherd updated the Butler County Board of Supervisors on June 28 about upcoming road and bridge work and staffing.
Riherd said crews plan to place asphalt next week by Packard and that the Greene bridge would be reopened this weekend. He reported that the county's RAISE grant application for the Packard Bridge was not approved and estimated the project's cost at roughly $4.3 million. Riherd told the board the county will need to determine how to proceed on the project following the grant denial.
Riherd also reported he had drafted a letter to notify the Secondary Roads crew that their operations will follow the Butler County Handbook; he said there may be some areas of concern during the transition and that he expects to seek additional hires later in the summer.
The board took no formal vote on new bridge funding during the meeting; no alternative funding source was recorded in the minutes.
