The Butler County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2008-2024 on June 18, 2024, increasing township clerks’ annual compensation to $500 effective July 1, 2024. County Auditor Leslie Groen told the board township clerks last received a pay increase in 2008 and recommended the change.
Under the resolution, township clerks will be paid $500 per year, disbursed $250 in December and $250 in June. Township trustees will continue to receive $30 per meeting attended, and an hourly rate of $13.50 will be paid when trustees or clerks are engaged in official business beyond those standard rates, with exceptions noted in Iowa Code 359.46. The resolution took effect at the start of fiscal year 2024/2025.
Supervisor Greg Barnett moved to adopt the resolution; Supervisor Rusty Eddy seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and the motion carried with all ayes.
The change affects township clerks across Butler County and was described to the board as a correction to long-unchanged clerk compensation rather than a change to trustee meeting pay. The board did not record any public comment on the item during the meeting.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 25, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
