Butler County Board approves hazmat-response agreement, utility permit and claims in routine meeting

The Butler County Board of Supervisors met July 23, 2024, and approved a series of routine items including an intergovernmental agreement for hazmat response, a utility permit for a fiber extension in rural Dumont, and county claims.
Leslie Groen, Butler County Auditor, reviewed an agreement with the Northeast Iowa Response Group on behalf of Chris Showalter and said the agreement is for hazardous-material response; Greg Barnett moved to approve the agreement and Rusty Eddy seconded. The board approved the agreement by unanimous voice vote.
County Engineer John Riherd outlined a utility permit requested by Dumont Telephone for an extension of an existing fiber network in rural Dumont, recommended approval and noted that the work continues earlier projects in the area. Rusty Eddy moved to approve the permit, Greg Barnett seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Riherd also provided an engineering update: asphalt paving is underway, the Greene bridge project is finishing, and removal of the Unverferth runaround bridge will proceed once water levels allow.
The board approved county claims after a motion by Greg Barnett and a second by Rusty Eddy. The meeting adjourned at 10:01 a.m.; the board set its next regular meeting for July 30, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
