Butler County supervisors adopt homestead and military tax-exemption resolutions

The Butler County Board of Supervisors met July 9, 2024, and adopted two tax-exemption resolutions for the 2024 assessment year and handled routine county business. Chairman Wayne Dralle called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m.; Supervisors Greg Barnett and Rusty Eddy were present.
The board unanimously approved Resolution #416-2024, allowing Homestead Tax Exemptions for the 2024 assessment year under the Homestead Tax Exemption Law, Chapter 425, Code of Iowa. The motion was made by Supervisor Greg Barnett and seconded by Supervisor Rusty Eddy; a roll call was taken and the resolution was declared adopted July 9, 2024.
The board also unanimously approved Resolution #417-2024, allowing Soldier’s (military) Tax Exemptions under Section 426A of the Code of Iowa for the 2024 assessment year. Supervisor Barnett moved the resolution, Supervisor Eddy seconded, and the board adopted the resolution after roll call. Assessor Dave Wangsness discussed reasons why some military exemption claims were disallowed during the board’s review.
In addition to the tax-exemption resolutions, the board reviewed and placed on file quarterly reports including the Butler County Sheriff’s Office report, the county recorder’s fees collected report, and the auditor’s cash report. The board also approved claims on a motion by Barnett, seconded by Eddy, with all supervisors voting aye.
The board acknowledged receipt of Manure Management Plan short-form annual updates for Woodford Creek Farms 802 (ID #57795), Kampman Finisher Farm (ID #57728), and Nolte Finisher Farm (ID #61738).
There was no engineer’s update at the meeting. The board adjourned at 9:11 a.m. and scheduled the next regular meeting for July 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. County Auditor Leslie Groen attested the minutes.
