Supervisors establish county compensation board under 2024 law change

At their Oct. 22 meeting the Butler County Board of Supervisors voted to establish a county compensation board as authorized by changes to Iowa Code Section 331.905 enacted in 2024 (Senate File 2442). Auditor Leslie Groen briefed the board on the law change and the board approved Resolution #2013-2024 on a unanimous voice vote following a motion by Supervisor Greg Barnett and second by Supervisor Rusty Eddy.
The resolution directs elected officials to submit appointments by Nov. 1, 2024. It specifies a seven-member compensation board composed of two appointments by the board of supervisors and one appointment each by the county auditor, county attorney, county recorder, county treasurer and county sheriff. The resolution sets initial staggered terms (two members to two years, and others to four years as specified) and states the resolution applies retroactively to July 1, 2024.
No additional debate or public comment on the resolution was recorded during the meeting. The board's roll call was taken and the resolution was certified by County Auditor Leslie Groen.
