Committee directs staff to draft 25-mph speed ordinance for South Oak Street after study

The Ephrata Borough Highway Committee reviewed a speed and volume study for South Oak Street (between West Fulton Street and Ridgeway Avenue) on Jan. 28 and determined a 25-mph speed limit in both directions is appropriate. The committee directed staff to prepare an ordinance that would restrict speeds in the area for review at a future meeting.
Staff noted PennDOT recommends establishing speed limits based on the 85th-percentile speed from study data; the committee cited the summary data in concluding that 25 mph would be suitable for the corridor. The committee’s direction was for staff to draft the ordinance language and present it for committee review at a subsequent meeting before forwarding any ordinance to Borough Council.
The committee also received related updates on winter maintenance supplies and the fourth-quarter budget affecting items under the committee’s purview; staff said Public Works had recently received two salt deliveries and additional deliveries were expected.
