Fiscal Court approves mower, door and concrete repairs, and funds cemetery fence, humane society

At its June 3 meeting, the Spencer County Fiscal Court approved several routine purchases, infrastructure repairs and community donations under motions recorded in the minutes.

Major approvals included a John Deere FC10R rotary cutter and associated equipment for the Road Department at a total price of $23,965.84 after discount; the court recorded one 'nay' (Esq. Stump) on that purchase and otherwise approved the motion. The court also approved a $1,865 quote to replace the Clerk's office door (including panic bar and handle) and accepted a $4,500 bid from Ace Chimney Sweep for courthouse concrete repairs.

Community and nonprofit allocations included a $2,459 payment to the Spencer County Historical & Genealogical Society to install a black vinyl fence at Little Mount Colored Cemetery and a $5,000 donation to the Spencer County Humane Society to subsidize low-cost spay/neuter, vaccines and outreach programs.

Other business approved by motion or vote included the clerk’s sheriff tax settlement, approval of jail contracts with Nelson, Shelby and LaRue counties, scheduling a two-day tire amnesty event (Friday and Saturday) and acceptance of invoice registers and transfers presented by the Treasurer. The court approved the listed bills, invoices and transfers including fuel card charges and multiple interfund transfers.

Votes on individual items were recorded as voice votes in the minutes; where a roll-call was not recorded, the minutes note unanimous 'aye' votes except where specifically recorded otherwise.

The court recessed at 9:58 a.m. and returned at 10:15 a.m. to continue the agenda.
