Spencer County Fiscal Court on June 17 approved two measures aimed at maintaining county infrastructure: the purchase of a one-ton maintenance truck and funds to finish paving several neighborhood roads.
The court approved buying a 2013 Ford F-350 from Auto Locator LLC for $22,000 (motion: Esq. Stump; second: Esq. Pharris; voice vote: all aye). The vehicle was presented as a tool to make the county maintenance worker more efficient by carrying tools and easing on-site repairs.
Magistrates discussed completing remaining pavement in a neighborhood served by several short streets. The Judge and magistrates said placing an additional inch or more of asphalt would provide a long-term fix; the court authorized asphalting Cochrane Court, Betty Court and Julie Court and committed up to $35,000 from budgeted road funds (motion: Esq. Stump; second: Travis; voice vote: all aye). One magistrate said finishing the work could keep the streets from needing attention for 20 years.
Both purchases were presented as uses of budgeted road funds and equipment-replacement planning. The truck purchase is expected to be completed through the county procurement process, and paving will proceed with the county’s contracting process or existing vendor agreements.
