Spencer County approves five EMS hires and offsets helmet grant shortfall

Spencer County Fiscal Court on Monday approved the hiring of five emergency medical services staff and authorized the county to cover a small shortfall on an equipment purchase.
During the June 17 meeting in Taylorsville, EMS Director Chris Limpp presented a personnel request asking the court to hire one full-time EMT and four part-time EMTs/paramedics, pending background and drug-screen clearances. The court voted to hire the five individuals at the pay rates and schedules listed on the agenda cover sheet (motion: Esq. Cotton; second: Esq. Pharris; voice vote: all aye).
Limpp also told the court the department had secured a Marathon Petroleum Foundation grant for $3,100 to buy rescue helmets priced at $3,370. The court agreed to offset the remaining $270 so the purchase could proceed immediately (motion: Esq. Cotton; second: Esq. Travis; voice vote: all aye).
The hires and the small equipment subsidy were presented as part of routine personnel and capital needs for the department. The agenda lists the new hires as: Alex Earnshaw (EMT, full time), Brandon Griffy (EMT, part time), Andrew Pittman (EMT, part time), Edward Whitworth (Paramedic, part time) and Austin Gerstler (Paramedic, part time), all subject to standard employment conditions.
The court approved the requests at the meeting; Limpp’s staffing request and the helmet purchase will move forward subject to the background and drug-screen requirements.
The county’s next procedural step for personnel will be completing the conditional hires’ screens; the equipment order will proceed once the county’s $270 contribution is applied.
