Spencer County approves election-worker pay increases, postcards and first reading of budget amendment

The Spencer County Fiscal Court on Sept. 4 approved several election-related pay changes and authorized an informational postcard mailing ahead of the 2024 general election.
County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock proposed a pay increase to precinct officers: a $0.50 hourly raise for early-voting officers, election-day pay raised from $150 to $175 per day, and Board of Election member pay for Election Day increased to $150 to reflect long workdays. Hesselbrock also proposed election postcards to inform households about voting options; the court approved a postcard mailing contingent on the court’s review of a sample; the motion to proceed was approved at a cost of $6,860.34.
Judge-Executive Scott Travis moved to approve the pay raises as presented; the motion, seconded by Esq. Pharris, carried with all members voting "aye." The court also approved the first reading of the 2024–25 budget amendment that incorporates additional revenues and project commitments; a second reading and formal adoption will follow after approval by the Kentucky Department for Local Government (DLG).
What happens next: The clerk will provide a postcard proof for final court approval and proceed with mailing. The budget amendment will be submitted to DLG for review and returned to the court for a second reading and adoption.
