Simpson County Fiscal Court approves speed-limit reduction, appointments and budget transfers

The Simpson County Fiscal Court on Nov. 19 approved a package of routine and substantive actions, including a second-reading adoption to reduce the speed limit on Cedar Bluff Road to 45 miles per hour, multiple board appointments, budget transfers and the approval of bills and the October financial statement.
The court adopted Ordinance No. 530.62 on second reading to lower the speed limit on Cedar Bluff Road to 45 mph; the recorded vote listed Magistrates Poston, Burr, Chandler, Thurman and Judge-Executive Barnes in favor. The court also approved first readings of two ordinances: Budget Amendment #2 (Ordinance No. 220.260) to account for added revenues and a lighting agreement for Windsor Park (Ordinance No. 310.31) for Section 3 Phase 2.
Appointments and reappointments approved included Sallie Starks and Gary Sliger to Planning & Zoning bodies (four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2028); Teresea Perkins to the Tax Appeals Board (three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2027); Sarah Wakefield and Mark Dobbs to the Library Board (four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2028); Betty Parker to the Code Enforcement Board (three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2027); and Lee McBrayer to the Ambulance Board (two-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2026). All appointments carried by the court.
The court authorized several budget transfers, including: $10,000 to fire department staff hourly from part-time personnel; $4,000 to sheriff fuel from telephone; $28,756 to reserve from election printing/supplies; $1,000 to employee health insurance from equipment maintenance; and other line-item adjustments. The court also approved cash transfers of $26,407.26 from the Federal Grant Fund to the General Fund and $66,195 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund. The court approved bills and claims as presented and accepted the October financial statement subject to audit.
