Brookville Borough officials told the council on Jan. 5 that Longview Park has been awarded a $300,000 LocalShare Account (LSA) grant to fund playground improvements. Borough Manager Dana Rooney presented the announcement during the meeting.
The council approved a special-event permit for Laurel Festival 2026 (motion by Karen Allgeier, seconded by Randy Bartley) and noted that National Night Out will take place Aug. 4, 2026, with the Rebranding Committee coordinating the event. Manager Rooney said a town-hall meeting on a financial review is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2026, at 6 p.m.
An executive session on personnel resulted in a Personnel Committee motion to hire a part-time police officer; the motion carried 7-0. Police Chief Vince Markle reported December statistics (143 service calls, 58 citations, 56 warnings, 5 felonies, 8 misdemeanors and 1 DUI/drug arrest) and asked residents to make house numbers more visible from the road to speed emergency response: “please make sure your house numbers are visible from the road.” The fire department reported December and 2025 annual incident totals and said it will host a state “Essentials of Fire Service” class for new volunteers in January.
Taken together, the grant and event approvals provide funding and schedule certainty for community programs; the personnel vote fills a staffing need in the police department.
