Fleming County fiscal court approves financial reports, keeps tax rates steady and schedules chip-seal work

The Fleming County Fiscal Court on Aug. 8 approved its monthly financial reports, set county tax rates unchanged for 2023 and advanced several routine agreements and resolutions.

County Treasurer Kathy Dryden presented fund balances through July 30, 2023, showing total county funds of $3,693,220.94, including an ARPA balance of $2,153,439.27. After the presentation the court voted unanimously to accept the Treasurer’s monthly reports.

The court set the 2023 tax rates the same as the prior year: 16 cents per $100 for motor vehicles and watercraft, and 15 cents per $100 for real and personal property. The motion carried unanimously.

The court approved a range of procedural items and renewals, including a lease renewal with Altius, renewal of the McGregor ACA Reporting Services agreement, and authorization for public notice of amendments to Ordinance 131150 following a second reading. The court also approved Ordinance 23-1391 (second reading) adopting reapportioned justice-of-the-peace boundaries; the minutes note that the reapportionment produced no changes to any magistrates’ districts.

Budget actions included approval of presented budget transfers and the court’s approval of the first reading of Budget Amendment 23-1395. The court approved claims reports and carry-in claims as presented.

The court approved commencement of chip-seal activities on county-maintained roads within Fox Valley Recreation Park, stipulating that the park gate remain open year-round. Road Supervisor Vise reported the park requires replacement of approximately 60 feet of road pipe but said he would re-inspect to determine whether that work can be deferred another year.

The County Clerk announced the annual delinquent property tax sale is scheduled for Aug. 18, 2023, at 10 a.m.
