Fleming County Fiscal Court approves routine financial actions, appointments and repairs

At its Oct. 10 meeting the Fleming County Fiscal Court approved routine financial reports and transfers, appointed Gary Shannon to the Fox Valley Recreation Park Board, rescinded broadband study actions after Spectrum’s award, and approved a $10,800 courthouse sidewalk repair contract.
The Fleming County Fiscal Court met Oct. 10 at the Fleming County Courthouse and approved a slate of routine administrative and financial measures, appointed a new park board member and authorized a courthouse sidewalk repair contract.
County Judge/Executive John Sims Jr. called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. and the court unanimously approved the Sept. 12 meeting minutes and rescinded an earlier appointment that had not complied with Fox Valley Recreation Park bylaws. The court then approved Magistrate Kerri Moran’s recommendation to appoint Gary Shannon to serve the unexpired term of Chip Spann on the Fox Valley Recreation Park Board; Shannon’s term will expire Feb. 17, 2024.
County Treasurer Kathy Dryden presented quarterly and monthly financial reports ending Sept. 30, 2023 showing total county funds of $4,146,659.07. The reports list General Fund $377,549.44; Road Fund $871,251.01; ARPA Fund $2,109,319.14; Capital Improvement Fund $304,812.75; and smaller balances in other funds. The court voted unanimously to accept the treasurer’s reports.
The court also approved presented budget transfers, cash transfers, auto‑pay for payroll deductions and employee benefits, claims reports, and payment of election expenses up to $11,500. September road maintenance, county clerk monthly and quarterly reports, the sheriff’s monthly and quarterly reports, the jailer’s report and the dispatch center’s requests were approved by unanimous votes.
On infrastructure, the court approved a $10,800 contract with Jefferson Contracting to repair courthouse sidewalks. Judge/Executive Sims reported that bids had not yet been solicited for a new road department tractor.
Other administrative approvals included an agreement with Mason County authorizing inmate community service participation and permission for the Ag Development Board to store seeding equipment at the county maintenance garage with reimbursement for any maintenance.
The court agreed to participate with the City of Flemingsburg in a county/citywide cleanup planned for late April 2024. The session adjourned at 9:46 a.m.
