Commission approves land lease, grants, contracts and appointments; authorizes housing contract with Montgomery County
Summary
Cheatham County authorized a land lease near the A.O. Smith plant, approved a Health Department playground-grant signature, authorized an intergovernmental jail-housing contract with Montgomery County, approved a highway-garage contract with added indemnification and confidentiality provisions, and confirmed several appointments and capital project expenditures.
During its May 20 meeting Cheatham County commissioners approved a range of operational items including a land lease, grants, contracts, appointments and project funding.
The commission voted to approve the mayor’s signature on a land lease for farm property located across from the A.O. Smith plant (motion carried 11–1). Commissioners approved the Mayor’s signature on Health Department grant funds to purchase playground equipment for the library walking-track property (11–0 recorded with one absence). The commission reappointed Charlie Simpkins to the Pleasant View Utility District board for a term beginning June 29, 2019 and ending June 29, 2023.
A motion to defer the county’s contract with Rufus Johnson Associates failed; after further discussion the commission approved the contract for the Cheatham County Highway Garage on George Boyd Road with three added provisions covering indemnification, limitation of liability and confidentiality/public-records requirements (vote 10–2). Commissioners also approved a contract with Montgomery County to house municipal offenders from the Cheatham County Jail (12–0 roll-call).
Capital-improvement actions included $6,879 to paint and caulk courthouse windows, $600 to move a flagpole to the Emergency Management Agency building, and $28,229 for a proposed Trane project presented by Randy Mauldin. The commission approved appointments (Marsha Hunt to the Library Board) and consent-calendar recognitions and notary public applicants, then adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
