Commissioners approve Forestwood Road rezoning, deny county request to rezone Petway Road

Cheatham County commissioners approved a rezoning from Agriculture to R1 for a portion of Map 37, Parcel 8 on Forestwood Road following a public hearing and a unanimous roll-call vote.
The vote came after Kimberly Eldridge Binkley (representing the estate of Douglas Eldridge) explained her request to rezone the Forestwood Road parcel. Building Commissioner Franklin Wilkinson presented the planning recommendation; the commission approved the change by roll-call vote 12–0.
The commission also heard a separate request from Cheatham County government to rezone part of Map 56, Parcel 31 on Petway Road from R1 to C3. That request drew opposition from residents and others: Judge Bill Stinnett, representing Danny Holder, asked the commission to honor a contract related to the Petway Road property; Clayton Reed and Jack Stafford spoke against the rezoning; Janet Knight said R1 zoning cannot accommodate stock and trade. After discussion, a motion to deny the county’s request carried by roll-call vote 11–1 (Commissioner Gary Binkley cast the lone No).
Commissioners additionally agreed, by motion, to place a donation of the old Two Rivers Fire Hall building on the June agenda if the underlying contract is voided.
The decisions conclude the advertised public-hearing items; the Forestwood Road rezoning and the Petway Road denial were recorded as Resolutions 5 and 6, respectively.
