Cheatham County’s legislative body approved a slate of land‑use, budget and administrative items during its March 18 regular meeting in Ashland City.
The body unanimously approved two advertised zone‑change requests: Tommy and India Jordan’s parcel at 1215 Norman Harris Road (Map 26, Parcel 032.01) in the 4th voting district and James Holland and Miranda Cochran’s parcel at 2617 Lee Drive (Map 21, Parcel 57) in the 3rd district. Building Commissioner Franklin Wilkinson reported Planning Commission recommendations were unanimous (6–0, two members absent), and the legislative body approved both requests by roll‑call votes of 12–0.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver also briefed commissioners on Sycamore Square and introduced Antonio Young from the county census outreach team. Commissioners authorized the mayor’s signature on an agreement with Goldstar Realty to sell the Tucker Empson Building (motion by Commissioner David Anderson, seconded by Commissioner Randy Liles); the roll call vote was 12–0.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented detailed General Fund budget amendments across departments (line items included funding adjustments for jail, juvenile, libraries, sheriff, mayor’s office, EMS, county clerk’s office and court). The General Fund package passed by roll call 12–0. The board also approved a Highway/Public Works Fund amendment for $1,227.86 and a Capital Improvements purchase of hallway flooring in the courthouse for $7,137.75; both actions passed by roll call 12–0.
Administrative approvals included authorization for a copier contract amendment in the Ag Extension Office (11–0, 1 absent), a Grant Contract for voting machines (11–0, 1 absent), and a maintenance agreement for the postage machine at Sycamore Square, which passed with one abstention noted. Commissioners approved recognitions for the Cheatham County High School Lady Cubs and East Cheatham Elementary and accepted a slate of notary applicants by voice vote.
School Board member Jennifer Hamblin thanked the commission for opposing education voucher legislation and urged the board to consider funding a new northern‑cluster school to address future growth, saying “we all are a part of ‘Team Cheatham.’”
Chairman Donnie Jordan announced that beginning in April meetings will be held in the David McCullough Room. With no further business, the body adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
