Cheatham County approves school and county budget amendments and authorizes up to $4.46M note for bus garage

CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. — Cheatham County commissioners on Dec. 21 approved a slate of budget amendments affecting county operations and the school system and authorized financing for a school bus garage project.

The Budget Committee recommended and the body approved County General Fund amendments covering line items such as jail operations, county buildings and ambulance/EMS. Funding sources were listed as “various” in the minutes. The motion to adopt the General Fund changes passed by roll call vote 12‑0.

Commissioners also approved amendments to the Solid Waste/Sanitation Fund, including a convenience center and sanitation management line items. A follow‑up motion to add $28,663.90 for a requested 4WD crew cab truck was put forward and failed on a roll‑call vote recorded by name in the minutes (three commissioners supported the truck and nine opposed; the motion did not pass).

For school funds, the body approved a $222,691.39 amendment to the General Purpose School Fund (instruction/support services/technology) funded by a grant and two Central Cafeteria Fund amendments totaling $92,000 for food service, also funded by grants. The School Bus Garage Facility financing was authorized by motion (not to exceed $4,456,639.00) as a capital‑outlay note; Budget Committee recommended the issuance and commissioners approved the motion by roll call vote 12‑0.
